Product Description
“Imagine” is a song composed and performed by English musician John Lennon and written by Yoko Ono and him in early 1971.
It is a piano ballad in the soft rock genre whose lyrics allude to a variety of concepts, although primarily mentioning the idea that “we are all one nation, one world, and one society.” Since its release, around five million physical copies of the single have been sold, and as of 2018, more than four million digital copies have been distributed, making it the most successful song in Lennon’s solo career.
Lennon and Ono produced the album in collaboration with Phil Spector, who stated that “we knew what we were going to do… it was John making a political statement while also being very commercial… I always thought it was like a national anthem. The recording of “Imagine” took place on May 27, 1971, at Ascot Sound Studios in Tittenhurst Park, while the string overdubbing was completed more than a month later, on July 4, at Record Plant in New York City.
