“Blowin´in the Wind” is a song by the American musician Bob Dylan composed for his second studio album “The Freewheelin´ Bob Dylan”, published in 1963.
The song has been described as “protest song” and talks about issues such as peace, war, freedom and the meaning of man’s existence on earth. The verse of the chorus “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind …” has been described as ambiguous, unfathomable and intriguing and is one of the most well-known lyrics not only from Dylan but from all the music of the twentieth century.
The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1994 and, in 2004, it was voted the 14th best song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine and has been covered by a large number of musicians and bands, including Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez and Marianne Faithfull stand out.
