Product Description

“Old Man” is a song written and performed by Canadian guitarist and singer Neil Young on his 1972 album Harvest. The song was written for the caretaker of Broken Arrow Ranch in Northern California, which Young purchased in 1970.

The song compares the life of a young man with that of an old man, showing that, in some way, the needs of both are the same. James Taylor plays the six-string banjo (modified as a guitar), providing backing vocals, with Linda Ronstadt also contributing.

Despite his youth, the musician already had a solid and successful career (both as part of bands like “Buffalo Springfield” or “Crosby, Still, Nash & Young” and as a soloist) but the great success of “Harvest”, and especially the singles “Old Man” and “Heart Of Gold”, definitely places Neil Young in the status of a folk-rock figure.

Personnel:
– Neil Young: Lead vocals and guitars.
– Ben Keith: Pedal steel guitar.
– James McCahon: Piano.
– James Taylor: Banjo and backing vocals.
– Linda Ronstadt: Backing vocals.
– Tim Drummond: Bass.
– Kenny Buttrey: Drums.
