Product Description
“Redemption Song” is a song from the album Uprising, the last released by Bob Marley & the Wailers before Marley’s death. By the time he composed the song in 1979, Marley had already been diagnosed with cancer and, according to his wife Rita Marley, was in a deep state of depression and sadness.
Unlike most of Bob Marley’s songs, “Redemption Song” is a solo acoustic recording in a folk style where Bob plays the guitar and sings without any extra instrumental accompaniment. On the same album Uprising, you can find this instrumentalized song played by The Wailers and sung by Bob.
Like many of the singer-songwriter’s songs, “Redemption Song” expresses the ideals of the Rastafarian movement and promotes the liberation of people from their own mental impositions. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it #66 on its list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
