“I Shot the Sheriff” is a song written by Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley. It was first released on The Wailers’ album Burnin’ in 1973. The song tells the story of a man who admits to shooting the town sheriff, but denies killing his deputy.
Eric Clapton covered the song and included it on his 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard. It was later released as the album’s lead single and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
