Lions

“Lions” is the closing song of the first album by the British rock band Dire Straits, with the same name, Dire Straits, released on June 9, 1978.

The song, like the rest of the album, was recorded at Basing Street Studios, in Notting Hill, London, between February 13 and March 5, 1978, and was produced by Muff Windwood, brother of well-known singer and keyboardist Steve Winwood.

It is a great example of the band’s sound in its early days, a mid-tempo song with clear influences of rock, blues and country (with clear touches of jazz in this case), with a soft and very rhythmic cadence, guitar touches very original and personal, Mark’s voice in a low register and choirs that give great emphasis to the chorus.

Personnel:
– Mark Knopfler: Vocals & Lead Guitar.
– David Knopfler: Rhythm Guitar & Background Vocals.
– John Illsley: Bass & Background Vocals.
– Pick Withers: Drums.
