“Rock Around the Clock” is a 1952 rock and roll song, the first rock and roll song to reach number 1 on the US charts.
Written by Max C. Freedman and James E. Myers, and recorded in April 1954 by Bill Haley & His Comets, it was ranked number 158 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
Initially recorded by Sonny Dae and His Knights, other musicians later covered the song, including the punk band Sex Pistols, who included their cover on the soundtrack of The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, and the Belgian band Telex.
