“Wild Thing” is a song composed by American singer-songwriter Chip Taylor, brother of famous actor Jon Voight and uncle of Angelina Jolie, recorded by the American band The Wild Ones in 1965 and later by the British band The Troggs, whose version reached number 1 on the Billboard chart. Hot 100 in July 1966.
The Troggs’ version was recorded in just ten minutes at London’s Olympic Studios and, in addition to the aforementioned number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it reached number 2 on the British charts and was an immediate success, becoming one of the the band’s most requested and well-known songs, reaching number 261 on the list of the 500 best songs in history according to Rolling Stone magazine.
Many other groups and singers performed the song, including Jimi Hendrix’s version, recorded at the Monterey festival and featured in D.A.’s documentary Monterey Pop. Pennebaker, being one of the most remembered moments in the career of the legendary artist.
